Updated for 2026 — profession change (class transfer) quests for classic Interlude.
Changing your job is the backbone of character progression in Lineage 2. Whether you call it a lineage 2 class transfer, a class change quest, or simply a profession change, every character passes through three of them on the road from newbie to end-game. This guide walks through all three tiers for classic Interlude — the level requirement at each stage, the general quest-and-mark pattern for each race, and why so many private servers now hand you an instant NPC class change instead of the old quest grind.
First Profession (Around Level 20)
Your first occupation change unlocks at level 20. It is the quickest and cheapest of the three, and it splits your base class into its early specialization — a Human Fighter becomes a Warrior, Knight, or Rogue; a Mystic becomes a Wizard or Cleric; and so on for every race.
The pattern is the same everywhere. You visit the guild or village master for your chosen path, complete a short quest that usually means killing a handful of monsters and collecting drops, and receive a proof item that you turn in to finalize the change. For example, a Human Fighter taking the warrior route runs Path to Warrior and earns a Medallion of Warrior. Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs, and Dwarves each have their own equivalent quests inside their home villages, but the structure never varies: talk to the master, complete the task, hand over the mark, and change class.
The first transfer also throws in useful rewards — a chunk of SP, and on Interlude often a permanent D-grade Shadow weapon plus Shadow Coupons. Kamael are a special case: on retail they arrived just after Interlude, but almost every modern "Interlude" and private server bundles them in with a dedicated class-change path that follows the same level 20 / 40 / 76 rhythm.

Second Profession (Around Level 40)
The second occupation change happens at level 40, and it is the one that truly defines your role. This is where a Warrior becomes a Gladiator or Warlord, a Rogue becomes a Hawkeye or Treasure Hunter, and a Wizard becomes a Sorcerer, Spellsinger, or Spellhowler. You can begin the groundwork at level 35, because the transfer is gated behind a three-part quest chain rather than a single task.
Each of the three quests rewards a mark, and you need all of them before your class Grand Master will perform the change:
- Trial of the... (available from level 35) — an archetype quest such as Trial of the Challenger, Trial of the Seeker, or Trial of the Scholar.
- Testimony of... (from level 37) — a race-tied quest; Humans run Testimony of Trust, while Elves, Dark Elves, Orcs, and Dwarves each have their own Testimony (Life, Fate, Glory, or Prosperity).
- Test of the... (from level 39) — the class-specific final test, for example Test of the Duelist, Test of the Healer, or Test of the Searcher.
Once you hold every mark, return to the Grand Master of your target class at level 40 to complete the profession change. Because this tier fixes your combat identity, it is worth studying the build ahead of time. If you took the bow, our Lineage 2 archer guide covers ranged builds, skills, and dyes, and if you are heading down a caster path, the mage nuker guide for Sorcerer, Spellsinger, and Spellhowler explains how to squeeze the most out of your nukes.
Third Profession (Level 76 and Up)
The third and final occupation change is unlocked at level 76, and it is by far the most demanding in both time and adena. You must already hold your second profession, and each 3rd class has its own dedicated Saga of the... quest (Saga of the Duelist, Saga of the Sagittarius, and so on). These sagas are long chains that send you across the map to shrines and force you to defeat powerful guardian and shadow monsters, often with help.
Expect the third transfer to be a project rather than an afternoon. Beyond the saga itself, learning and enchanting your new high-level skills relies on Giant's Codex items (the Secret Book of Giants), and those are expensive to buy or farm. Budget accordingly, because a half-finished 3rd class leaves you missing your best abilities.
Level 76 is also the gateway to the end-game, where many players start a subclass and chase Noblesse status — a separate progression track worth understanding early. Our Lineage 2 subclass and Noblesse guide explains how those systems interact with your main class once you clear the third profession.
Class Transfer Requirements at a Glance
| Tier | Level | What You Need | Difficulty / Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st profession | 20 | One short quest per class (kill/collect), turn in a proof item (e.g., a medallion) to your guild master | Quick and cheap |
| 2nd profession | 40 (start at 35) | Three-part chain — Trial of..., a race-specific Testimony of..., and a class-specific Test of... — collect all marks, then see the Grand Master | Moderate, multi-step |
| 3rd profession | 76+ | Class-specific Saga quest (defeat powerful guardians), plus Giant's Codex items to learn/enchant new skills | Long and expensive |
One important caveat: everything above describes the official Interlude flow. In practice, many private servers skip the quests entirely and offer an instant class change from an NPC — sometimes free, sometimes for adena or a shop currency — so you can jump straight to your next profession the moment you hit the required level. Unlock levels and whether marks are even needed vary from server to server, so always check your server's rules before planning a route around the retail quest chain.
